Frostpunk 2 was announced at Summer Game Fest 2023, and we will see the sequel in 2024. Let’s dig deeper into the frosty land of what we know about FP2 so far. We will take a look at all the key information, which we will update over time.
Release date of Frostpunk 2
The main information everyone wants to know is the release date. The latest information we have from the developer is that they are planning a release in the first half of 2024…

Frostpunk 2 will be available in the first half of 2024.
… specifically, according to one of the developers! latest statements, they currently have all major features “playable” and are giving high priority to external testing. We can also get ready for the first Gameplay Reveal in early autumn.

Trailer and main features of Frostpunk 2
The first trailers are too general, and so there is a lot of space for imagination. However, you should definitely expect a suspenseful story and tough decisions that we will often regret, but they are for the good of society, right?
If we take a closer look at the trailer and the “general info” on the Steam page, we can deduce that the main game features / changes of Frostpunk 2 will be:
The timeline and the story, because we are 30 years after the first game. There is still a deadly ice age and you have to focus on new energy sources like oil to survive (we should have seen that in the trailer). Also, your “city” will eventually grown and get much bigger than in the first version.
Society is also something that has progressed over the years, but now faces inner turmoil and conflict as ambitions grow. Maintaining order and stability will be a challenge. The frosty post-apocalyptic world remains deadly, but humanity’s own complex nature may pose an even greater threat. There will be some really tough choices at stake. The developers describe it as a game that is not for everyone with the following sentence:
This Game may contain content not appropriate for all ages, or may not be appropriate for viewing at work: Nudity, Frequent Violence or Gore, General Mature Content
We can continue to count on the elements that manage resources, expand the city, manage the laws and your people. It’s sure to be an engaging story and, once again, a unique experience.
Platforms speculation for Frostpunk 2
So far, the latest screens from the trailer show say that Frostpunk 2 will only be available on computers and MacOS in the first wave of sales. In fact, we should only see the Steam / Epic Game / Gog.com logos. If Frostpunk 2 is on consoles from the day one, then there will be the Microsoft / PlayStation Store option as well.
I should also mention that Frostpunk now has a console edition available on PS4 / PS5 and Xbox versions. However, the console release was later than the full game release. So there will probably be a console edition of Frostpunk 2 in the future. Also, Frostpunk 1 is available on GeForce Now, so I think we should expect this game on that platform as well.
Fair price of Frostpunk 2
The price of Frostpunk 2 is still unknown.
I expect the game to cost around 20 – 40 EUR/USD.
Frostpunk 2 is a different strategy game. It’s not just a sandbox in which to build, there is also a story and a complex decision tree. On the one hand, it’s something you’ll probably play through once/twice/three times and try out different decisions, but again, I don’t know if you’ll spend hundreds of hours on it.
I expect the game to go pretty deep, so I wouldn’t be afraid to put a higher price tag on the game. Probably the game could be even more expensive if it could run more in sandbox mode, i.e. generate the story procedurally via LLM so we could spend more time with the game. The first part is now 30 Euro/USD and I expect the sequel to cost around 40/50 EUR/USD.

There are no other gameplay videos available for now, but we know from the developers’ information from last investor conference that they will release a Gameplay Reveal in early fall. And yes, we will likely see more content before the game is available in the first half of 2024.
Insider info about the game from the last investor conference
On June 14th, the 11 Bit Studios investor conference 2023 took place, where we got some information about Frostpunk 2. These can be heard here in the next video or you can scroll down and read some of the highlights by yourself…
… here are the main points that might be important to us:
- Frostpunk 2 is more ambitious than the first game, expanding the city builder foundation into new genres to appeal to more players.
- The scale and scope of the game is much bigger than the original.
- The story goes beyond simply surviving the apocalypse and explores what happens afterwards.
- They are launching a major promotional campaign for the game and planning press events for August and September.
- A gameplay trailer is coming soon.
- During development, they prefer extensive external playtesting and feedback from players.
- The two playtests so far in April and June have yielded positive reactions to the changes and new features.
- The team size is currently around 80 developers, the largest of the 11 Bit Studios.
- The main features are already playable and aim to reach alpha status this fall.
- The release is planned for the first half of next year.
- Judging by the playable state and positive results of the playtests, production seems to be on schedule so far.
